10:48 pm - Wedding Wishes

ele_eternal
My name is El, I'm 27 and a plus-size bride-to-be. I'm also a web developer and in the process of setting up a wedding community website called "Wedding Wishes" at http://www.weddingwishes.co

I'm looking to get the ball rolling and encourage some communication on the forums before I actually launch the site, and as such, I'd love to invite the community to join for free and even receive a couple of freebies I picked up while doing some marketing for work. There's a fantastic ebook worth $40 that you can download for free that claims to save you thousands. Not sure how accurate that is in practice, but I've read it and it is actually really good... and really very free!

Anyway, I'd love to see all of you over at Wedding Wishes to claim your membership and free goodies. Feel free to add my personal journal or message me if you have any questions or need a hand.

I apologise if some of you got caught in a cross-post!

12:08 pm - wedding dress

x_i_cherish_u_x
It has been a long time since anyone posted to this community. I know a few individuals have posted their wedding dress or dresses they are selling. I am going to be selling my wedding dress and wanted to offer it up to anyone here. It is a halter organza dress from Davids Bridal, it was discontinued when I bought it about 4 years ago, now married for 3.5 years. I loved the dress, it moved and was light (sing I am always sweltering). It had a beautiful train that was easily bustled. There is slight make up on the halter but otherwise the dress is in wonderful condition. It's a size 26, the only alteration was a slight reduction in the length of the halter. I am hoping for $200 including the puffy slip. Would consider selling for less. I'm in PA, shipping would be extra.

I will happily email photos :)

I can't ever say that i've been a thin girl. Even in the 5th grade, I weighed a140lbs. My main size throught highschool was a size 16-18, and once I graduated I was considerably less active. No more dance team, nomore marching band, and I have a lot more time on my hands to eat and snack, and my freshman year in college, I met my fiance. I was even less active and a whole lot more stressed due to certain things happening in life. Then in 2005, I was a size 16-18, I got pregnant, and lost the baby at 23 weeks, 2 days. After this, I went into a greater depression, alongside just having moved to a city 100 plus miles away from my family, never having been away from home or my mother for more than 3 weeks vacation.
Over the years, I have gotten use to being a big girl, even proud of my voluptuousness, but still when I looked at my naked self in the mirror, I was disgusted at what I saw. Now, as brought up in this post, http://community.livejournal.com/100pounds2lose/5322479.html?style=mine, my fiance has given me (as of a couple of months ago) an ultimatum to lose about 100lbs before our August 14, 2010 wedding. I knew being overweight was bad for my health, and blood pressure/cholesterol issues as well as heart problems run well within my family. Now I have a support group of a lot of ladies at a community called 100pounds2lose who have given me not only good advice, but hope that I can do lose the weight to the best of my abilities, and that my fiance saying that he wanted me to lose the weight because of my health and because he was "tired of my gut flapping around." That hurt to hear, and every time he talks about my weight, it brings me to tears and I feel so unloved its unbelivable, but maybe it's just what I need to get going...maybe. At this point, I want to do this for me, but for him even more. I want him to be happy with me, not just me with myself...I'm stuck and so topsy turvy on this. Since I just got a new job, I guess the first thing i'll do is join a gym, and find a weight loss plan.

4:46 pm - Potential wedding dresses for sale

rosewater
I've got a sales post up on fatshionista today that includes two potential wedding dresses: a short ivory lace one, size XL (14ish), and a long mesh beaded one, size 18. I bought them as backup dresses and they're both unworn. I thought people in this community might be in need of cheap backup dresses too -- it really takes the pressure off when you're dress shopping to know that you've got a suitable fallback.

6:04 pm - question

quiet_flame

Does anyone know of a good resource for looking at photographs of real, plus-size brides?

Or, if you want to post a photo of yourself on your wedding day (or in your dress), that'd be even better! :)

12:14 pm - NoVA/DC/MD Brides

labellelle
Hi again everyone,

This question is for the NoVA/DC/MD brides in the group.

My mom lives in Fairfax, VA and I'm going to be visiting her in the middle of September. I was debating about visiting some of the bridal shops up there to try on dresses and I'm wondering if there are any shops up there that have samples of plus size dresses to try on.

I'm a 22/24/3x in off-the-rack stuff and I can't see trying to get into a dress that I can't get past a thigh.

Also, if you aren't sure but you enjoyed your experience at the shop, share the name of the shop. I'm more than willing to hunt down their contact information to call or email them.

Thanks! :c)

10:30 am - Cutesy "Bride" Tanks

labellelle
So, I've been seeing these cute little overpriced tank tops with "BRIDE" emblazoned across the bosom in a sparkly cursive type script but I haven't been seeing them in a size to fit me. Until today. I came across the Kiyonna Klothing store (http://www.kiyonna.com/plus-size-clothing/To_Be_Wed_Wear) and they have one in a 22-24 but all the others are a 0X for a size 10-12.

I like the tank with the little jewels that spell out "BRIDE" and I'm wondering - is there somewhere I can just buy a transfer and make my own "BRIDE" tank top? Iron-ons I understand and are easy but if it is more difficult than that, I'm going to need some instructions :c)

12:19 pm - Rose Gold Wed Dress

labellelle
HI everyone,
I hope you all can help me. My wedding is in 14.5 months (October 2009) and I'm on the hunt for a dress. I'd love to have a dress in a color called rose gold but I'm having trouble finding one. I can find dresses in rose. I can find them in gold. But the rose gold is remaining elusive. I saw the color in a bridal magazine somewhere and I can't find the danged magazine }:-/ Has anyone besides me heard of this color and does anyone know what designers are using this color in their dresses?
Thanks for your help!
~L~

I hope this is okay to post, I didn't see anything in the community info about selling things not being allowed.

I'm selling a size 26 Alfred Angelo wedding gown that I never got to wear.  Details (and large pictures) are below the cut.

9:31 am - Custom Wedding Dresses

cellos_playing
Hello everyone!

I was browsing communities and ran across this one (tagged with costume design). I know it's pretty hard finding a nice wedding dress in your size... So I wanted to offer my help. I was one of those brides about a year and a half ago that needed a dress... that wasn't boring and that would fit me... so, I made my own. I just graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in costume design and construction and I decided that I wanted to cater to plus sizes, specifically historical costumes and wedding dresses. Needless to say, my designs and ideas are quite... different.

I have a business that is going on 3 years. I mostly just have an etsy shop now, but since i have graduated I am slowly starting to integrate formal wear (http://ifautumnends.etsy.com). I have done a lot of formal wear and historical designs that you can see in one of my photobucket albums if you go to http://www.ifautumnends.com . I can work with you to create a custom design generally between $150 and $1200 (many factors vary this). So, all price ranges.

I will include a picture of me in my wedding dress before I go. Don't hesitate to contact me at if.autumn.ends at gmail dot com if you're having a hard time finding a dress that fits you and your budget. I wish you luck in your marriages and dress searches! me!Collapse )

4:50 pm - Three wedding-dress-shopping questions

divaboots
Hi all! I need to start shopping for a wedding dress soon and have three questions:

1. Because (as I understand it) all wedding-dress lines run small, am I totally screwed if I'm actually a 24 in regular clothes? Like, will I need to wear a 28 or 30 and therefore be sized out of most bridal shop stuff?

2. Are you supposed to buy the undergarments before you go dress shopping (to check how they work under the dress) or after?

3. Is there a bridal shop in the New York area you'd recommend? I'll go anywhere--New Jersey, Philadelphia, CT--for a nice experience and a decent selection. If you know of a great one in Chicago I'd take that too!

11:57 pm - Informal dresses in NYC

rosewater
For those of you looking for an informal dress, Lisa of the amazing Brooklyn plus size boutique Lee Lee's Valise just emailed me to say that she'll be getting this dress in ivory and pale blue starting in April. (Now that's service -- I tried on the same dress in green in November, and she remembered to let me know it was coming in in wedding-y colors. Lisa's amazing.) Lisa says she talked Tadashi into cutting these for her -- I don't know how much truth there is to that, but I think it's quite possible that it's the only place you'll be able to get these dresses this season (other colors are on sale several places), and it's really as beautiful as it looks. In general, Lee Lee's Valise is definitely worth a look if you live in or are visiting NYC, and especially if you're interested in a floaty dance frock as a reception or rehearsal dress.

11:32 pm - desperate to sell NWT wedding dress 26W

tanha
Hi all...sorry for the "I want to sell, blah blah" post, but I'm desperate. My FH and I have run into some money trouble and had to postpone our wedding and sell what we could. I'm selling my david's bridal $600 gown for way less on ebay. Please take a look!

It's david's bridal style T8818, special order so it's only been tried on by me. It's a size 26W. New with tags. Smoke free/pet free home. TIA!
